Your body loves dry brushing.

We have all seen this large paddle brush in beauty sections before, even going back a few decades beauty tools have always been targeted to women and self-care. This ancient Ayurvedic beauty tool has withstood time because of its natural and simple health benefits. Why does a rough bristle brush do so good when it doesn’t feel so great?

Circulation & Blood Flow and Energy!

What does this do for my skin?

  • Removing the top layer of cells from our skin.

  • Increasing circulation to regenerate new skin cells.

  • Draining the lymph nodes in the body. (Lymph nodes hold fluid & toxins).

  • Increases energy.

  • Detoxification of draining toxins out of the body

  • Exfoliating your skin.

  • Body connection.

  • Relaxation for your nervous system.

I dry brush 1-2 times per week, usually before a shower. I make a point not to rush the process of dry brushing, for one because the bristles are rough and need a light touch, two because the strokes should be long and consistent, 3 because the action of slowing down is a form a self-care i’ve learned to prioritize.

Don’t rush the process of touch and exfoliation.

The brush bristles are rough so the touch to your skin should be light and relaxing. Dry brush strokes go from down to up, towards your heart. I begin with my left arm, stomach, chest; right arm, stomach, chest; entire back, left leg, stomach, right leg, stomach, entire back and done.

Each joint region in our body has a lymph node, using the dry brush you push on the lymph node creating circular motions which creates the motion of removing toxins ‘draining’. I use the count of 8 for every stroke at every part of my body.

Getting out of the shower and feeling rejuvenated I take time to seal the self care with body oil. Natural skincare oil massaged into my legs, stomach, chest, arms, back. The habit of dry brushing changed when I started meditating, which is a reflection of my change of pace, state of my mind, breath and self awareness.
